Skin Resurfacing

There has been significant interest in non-invasive methods to effectively improve skin texture without patient downtime. The ablative lasers are able to achieve these results thanks to a light procedure which allows dermal damage to be controlled. Wound healing leads to skin remodelling and a reduction in superficial wrinkles, skin toning and the removal of pigmented spots in the epidermis.
Erbium and CO2 lasers have been used as an effective instrument in skin resurfacing for many years. They are more precise and effective than chemical peels when it comes to removing the top layers of the skin, which causes smooth new skin to form and collagen to be renewed.

The introduction of MicroSpot technology has reduced the healing period to just a few days. The fractional laser therapy with the Erbium or CO2 laser allows the selective treatment of only “fractions” of the tissue in the form of a grid. This is made possible by splitting the laser beam into several hundred partial rays. This triggers skin renewal and collagen formation with rapid wound healing, which is supported by the untreated skin and therefore involves a very low risk of side effects. Wrinkles and scars (including acne scars) are effectively reduced. Pore size is decreased and the skin’s pigmentation becomes more even, which also helps to improve the appearance of the skin. The signs of the treatment are practically invisible by three to seven days afterwards. Even one session will lead to remarkable results; for marked lines or scars, additional treatment sessions can follow after several weeks.

The fractional laser therapy with a Q-switched laser is unique and allows the treatment of large areas, especially on the face, because the side effects are even lower compared to the treatment using fractional Erbium or CO2 lasers.

With natural aging, the skin tends to loss elasticity and become thinner, mainly due to the loss of collagen and dehydration. Other factors can also influence the degeneration of the skin such as stress, smoking, sun exposure, poor diet or air pollution.

Lasers emit a light which can vaporize the superficial layers of the epidermis and softening the wrinkles. This process leads to a peeling the skin and producing natural regeneration. The lower-epidermis produces new cells producing renewed collagen and elastin which improves the skin texture and elasticity.

The wrinkles around the eyes and the around the mouth can be treated. Acne scars, burn wounds, scars, old-age spots and generally any other skin imperfections can be treated with the Dermablate safely and effectively.

Laser devices have been used in cosmetic surgery more than twenty years due to the high degree of reliability and effectiveness when operated by qualified specialists. Lasers have replaced old traditional methods such as chemical peeling and dermo-abrasion due to not been able to control the depth of action and are more uncomfortable and painful for the patient.

The treatment can be done gently and more cautiously over a course of treatments or One single treatment can be done at a greater more substantial depth. It will depend more on the patient’s requirements.

The downtime is usually quite short. During the first 48 hours, a sensation similar to sunstroke can be felt. With the right creams use the discomfort will vanish quite quickly. After 3-7 days after the treatment, the skin will appear pinkish and smooth. This can easily be covered with light makeup, without affecting daily activities or social life.

During the first 48 hours, a good moisturizing antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory cream can be applied as well as vaseline-based preparations ointments are recommended in order to prevent any scabbing. Sun block with and SPF of 30 is to be used for at least two months post treatment.

A local anaesthetic may be used for particularly sensitive areas but overall the treatment is not too painful and is well-tolerated by the patient.

Some unsightly dark marks may occur but always disappear within a few weeks, either on their own or by the result of your physician’s advice.

After a laser therapy procedure, the skin will be smoother, tighter and more polished. Deep wrinkles will be reduced and the finer wrinkles will disappear. Although effective, the treatment will not change your natural facial expression or gestures.
